I read and heard from many sources that this movie titled ‘Santosh Subramaniyam’ is one of the best to have happened in the recent times. Quite a few of my friends who had seen ‘Bommarilu’ – the orginal version of this movie in Telugu went gaga about it as well. More often than not, watching a movie with such a hype takes your expectation levels sky high and this is what happened when I happened to watch ‘Santosh Subramaniyam’ yesterday.

To be honest, it is a neat family entertainer packed with good songs, decent comedy and what not. With very few exceptions, I haven’t seen many movies that places importance to the role of female character lead. ‘Santosh Subramaniyam’ is one such exception. Genelia in the lead role is very live and bubbly and it is obvious that Jeyam Ravi has found it tough to cope up with her. In fact, so powerful was Genelia’s innocent character that the role is the main strength of that movie. However, by unnecessarily overplaying certain aspects of the character is in a way irritating.

Leaving aside these drawbacks, it is certainly a nice movie to watch and one must appreciate the director for presenting a serious storyline in a light hearted way laced with humour. Certainly worth watching, at least once.

Banana Taquito

If there is one dessert that had me craving for more in the recent times, it is the one called Banana Taquito. As a long time fan of Banofee Pie, as soon as I saw the name starting with ‘Banana’, I ordered it mistaking it to be a Banofee. Oh boy.. for once, I am glad I made the mistake. What a divine stuff that was to create such an effect on the taste buds that I didn’t care one bit about my waist line. This is what the menu describes, but let me tell you it tastes much better than what it sounds. 😉

Banana wrapped in a cinanmon tortilla and then deep fried until golden brown. Served warm with cajeta fudge sauce and vanilla ice cream.

It so happens that I had similar surprise with a banana related dessert years ago when we had that at a Chinese Restaurant in Bournemouth. While on the topic, after dabbling with Chinese, Italian, Thai, American(?), Mexican and of course Indian, we seem to have a deep sense of liking towards Mexican. In the recent past, we have visited Chiquito and we are more than impressed with the quality of food as well as service. 🙂

Fourth Protocol

Ever since I started commuting to work by car, my reading frequency hit the nadir as it was during my train journey to work I used to read. Last week, my other half pointed out about that and suggested to make some time to resume that habit. To make it easier, I started with a novel titled ‘Fourth Protocol’ by Fredrick Forsyth. Although it is one another ‘masala’ book, it is a very good page turner. As the plot of the story happens in Britain, it was all the more interesting and I managed to finish the book with in a week. Now, I have picked up John Grisham’s ‘The Street Lawyer’. Should see how it goes.

btw, it is two years since I got my driving licence in UK after lot of struggle. I am glad to be out of the probation period. Phew.. what a relief!
